Fall Community Caring

trout-unlimited-fall-1This fall has been full of excitement so far – having participated in preparing local coldwater fisheries and watersheds for the winter, cleaning up at our local Easter Seals and helping Penn State spread the Halloween spirit! Our three fall community caring activities included working with the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Centre County’s United Way and the Arboretum at Penn State’s Pumpkin Festival.

In September, we returned to Spring Creek for a continuation of our efforts in the spring to relocate local coldwater fisheries and watersheds with Trout Unlimited. We provided needed maintenance to previously planted seedlings and pulled invasive plant species. Our work will help the new, native species survive over the winter.

We were also proud to participate in the 23rd Annual PNC Bank Day of Caring in early October. Over 1600 volunteers came out to serve 96 non-profit sites in our region. Centre County United Way, sponsored by PNC Bank, matched local volunteers with local nonprofit organizations. We were selected to work with one of our neighbors, Easter Seals – a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to help those with disabilities “address life’s challenges and achieve personal goals.” Here, we were able to help clean the children’s play area, tune up their bikes and give their sandbox a fresh coat of paint.

Helping out at the Arboretum at Penn State’s annual Pumpkin Festival was our final community caring event for the fall. Every year, the festival entails a pumpkin giveaway, jack-o’-lantern carving contest, lighted nighttime displays and family activities. We helped with event set-up – husking corn for children’s crafts and setting up hay barrels for the jack-o’-lantern illumination display.

Overall, our community caring activities for the fall were a success! We are thankful to everyone who was able to donate their time to these local organizations and are proud to be a member of such a caring and generous community!img_5994
